You have chosen: The best organic projects
10,000 in funding goes to Preetz, Waldkraiburg and Altötting
Mühldorf, November 2024: With its BIObegeistert sponsorship, Byodo Naturkost GmbH supports daycare centres, schools, universities and associations in realizing projects related to organic nutrition and organically produced food. The family-run organic company is providing a total of €10,000 in project support. Following the online vote, the three winners have now been chosen: €5,000 will go to the Theodor-Heuss-Gemeinschaftsschule in Preetz, €3,000 to the Graslitzer elementary school in Waldkraiburg and third place, with €2,000, goes to the Weiß-Ferdl-Mittelschule in Altötting.
Committed projects have been able to apply since June and the application phase has now been completed. Many projects applied and 13 impressive projects took part in the online voting phase. This has now been completed and the winners have been announced. The 1st prize, endowed with €5,000, went to the Theodor-Heuss-Gemeinschaftsschule in Preetz with 298 votes. With its Theo’s Meadow project, the school would like to learn outside in and with nature in a sustainable and meaningful way with the pupils from the 5th and 6th year profile classes. “We would like to start a new gardening year with the children next spring and prepare and eat the harvest of our efforts in the summer ourselves, but also offer some of it for sale,” explains Mareke Wiese, profile teacher. “The planning and implementation are a lot of fun, but of course it also costs a lot of money.” The BIObegeistert funding will be used to buy organic seeds and seedlings as well as tools and a cargo bike so that the harvested fruit and vegetables can be sold at the weekly market. A new water supply system will also be installed in the garden.
The runners-up, Graslitzer Primary School in Waldkraiburg, are delighted to receive €3,000 for the purchase and keeping of school chickens. “We will use the funding to purchase the chickens, the new fence and coop as well as the running costs for feed,” explains Lydia Partsch, principal. “The aim of the project is to promote our pupils’ awareness of nature and the environment. It also promotes the pupils’ social and physical skills, strengthens their sense of community and brings fun into the classroom.”
The Weiß-Ferdl Middle School in Altötting is delighted to receive €2,000 and third place. Six chickens have been a permanent fixture at the school since the 2022/2023 school year. “In recent years, we have noticed time and again that fewer and fewer children know where our food actually comes from,” says Sandra Schöler, the school’s environmental officer. “We would like to extend the chickens’ enclosure so that they have more space in the afternoons.” To protect the chickens from the wind and weather in their new enclosure, a device will also be purchased for the winter and the running costs for feed and litter will be covered.
“At Byodo, we are committed to going above and beyond the standard – not only in terms of the quality of our organic products, but also with projects such as the BIObegeistert promotion. In this way, we can start as early as possible and bring people into contact with organic at a young age in a playful way,” says Byodo Managing Director Stephanie Moßbacher. “We look forward to implementing the projects together and would like to congratulate the winners.” The next round of funding will also take place in 2025. The organic company will provide more detailed information in due course. The BIObegeistert grant is an important step towards promoting organic food and sustainability in Germany.
