Highest quality standards and sustainability efforts
Byodo Naturkost GmbH receives renewed IFS “Higher Level” certification and ZNU initial certification
Mühldorf – February 2025: Byodo Naturkost GmbH has once again received IFS certification with the “Higher Level” award. In addition, the organic pioneer underwent a further audit and is now also certified for its sustainability in accordance with the ZNU standard. This confirms the company’s very high quality standards and product safety criteria as well as its sustainability values.
The IFS standards and programs include requirements that can be used to assess whether suppliers of private label and branded products can deliver safe and high-quality products. IFS certification is one of the most demanding and strictest quality certificates in the food and beverage industry.
As in the previous year, the organic company was audited in all areas of the company: Byodo supplies the retail trade with its branded products, serves the catering trade and communal catering businesses with the bulk packs of the Byodo CateringLine and also offers raw materials and private label products. Due to these diverse divisions, the company was certified in accordance with both IFS Broker – for trading activities – and IFS Logistics Standards – for warehouse management from goods receipt to order picking.
During the two-day audit, Byodo Naturkost put all procedures and measures that serve quality management and guarantee product safety to the test. This ranges from corporate policy and organizational structure to the individual processes in the specialist departments.
“The value of quality has run through our entire company since we were founded 40 years ago. It is firmly anchored in our culture as a core corporate value,” says Byodo Managing Director Stephanie Moßbacher. “In addition to 100% organic ingredients in our products, our concept of quality also includes the strictest analytical parameters and sensory tests. Sustainability and service quality towards all our business partners are also part of this.”
For this reason, it was only logical to take the next step here too. Certification to the ZNU Standard for Sustainable Management confirms Byodo Naturkost GmbH’s commitment to sustainable corporate management. The company has imposed strict requirements on itself in the areas of environment, social affairs, economy and corporate management, which go far beyond the legal requirements and are practiced in day-to-day business.
The Sustainable Management Standard introduced by the Center for Sustainable Corporate Management (ZNU) leads to the implementation of a holistic management process for sustainable corporate management. The ZNU standard is the world’s first holistic sustainability standard that can also be independently certified. Certification ensures that the company is seriously addressing the issue of sustainability and is systematically developing in the key areas of action at the respective location and along the value chain.
“As a family business, sustainable business practices are important to us in two senses – we strive for long-term company success and a sustainable world. We want to consciously set an example against short-term profit maximization, exploitation of resources and the environment,” says founder’s daughter and Managing Director Stephanie Moßbacher. “I am proud of our team that the ZNU certification officially confirms that we live sustainability with conviction and enthusiasm every day. Our goal is to constantly develop ourselves further and continue to lead the way with sustainability initiatives in the future.”
