Company laptops from Byodo: donation instead of disposal

Second hand appliances for students in Malawi

Mühldorf – 21.06.2023: Living sustainability goes beyond organic products – which is why the organic company Byodo Naturkost from Mühldorf am Inn is giving functional hardware a second life. The company’s laptops enable low-income students in southern Africa to study at university through MalawiHilfe Schwindegg.

Byodo Naturkost has been supporting Malawi Hilfe Schwindegg for many years. The organization supports pupils and students in one of the poorest countries in the world through educational sponsorships. The educational sponsors finance the tuition fees and in some cases also the living costs for young people who would not be able to afford a university education without support, even though they are qualified. “The students also need help with laptops and smartphones in order to be able to study at all, and this is where we help together with the used laptops from Byodo,” says Konrad Ess, first chairman of Malawi Aid, who personally handed over the devices on site.

Byodo Naturkost itself also frequently uses second-hand appliances instead of new ones. Environmentally friendly and resource-saving hardware is part of the organic company’s “Green IT” strategy. By acquiring a stake in Agotech IT-Systemhaus GmbH, the family business has brought a competent partner in this field directly into the company. Agotech also prepared the laptops for Malawi aid free of charge for their new use, including complete data cleansing.

Repairing instead of throwing away is another motto of sustainable IT at the Mühldorf-based organic company. Thanks to Agotech’s repair workshop, Byodo Naturkost can use many of its electrical appliances until they really have reached the end of their life or donate them to social projects such as Malawi Aid.
