New “Mediterranean Tomato” and “Sweet Onion” Protein Crisps

 

Mühldorf — September 2026: A moment of indulgence that not only tastes good but is also good for you: With the two new varieties—Protein Crispy Triangles Mediterranean Tomato and Protein Crispy Triangles Sweet Onion—Byodo Naturkost GmbH is launching two new additions to its popular Crispy Triangles line starting September 1, 2026. Puffed from red lentil flour instead of being deep-fried, these crispy snack triangles feature flavorful organic spice blends—one with a Mediterranean twist featuring the finest tomatoes and herbs, the other savory and spicy with a hint of sweet onion.

 

Enjoyment, with a clear conscience

Organic quality and mindful enjoyment have always been at the heart of Byodo—and that’s exactly what the new seasoned protein crispy squares offer: 100 percent organic ingredients from certified organic farming, plus they’re high in protein, a source of fiber, and contain less fat than conventional chips. Both varieties are vegan and gluten-free, of course. Byodo is thus deliberately setting itself apart from classic potato chips: In a direct comparison, the Protein Crunchies provide about 22 grams of protein per 100 grams—compared to about 6 grams in a classic chip variety—while containing significantly fewer calories and 50 percent less fat¹.

The demand for snacks that are both high in protein and delicious has long since become mainstream—protein has evolved from being a nutrient exclusively for athletes to a key selling point on snack shelves. Byodo is responding to a market trend that is already reflected in its own sales figures: The existing Knusperecken line ranks among the top-selling snack items in organic specialty stores, with Byodo as the third-largest provider in the segment. The brand’s first protein variety has seen particularly dynamic growth since its launch and, after just a few months, is listed almost everywhere in organic wholesale and retail chains.² Just six months after its launch, the Protein Knusperecke Red Lentil variety is the absolute top seller in the category.³

 

More Than Just a Snack

“Our new seasoned protein crispy triangles embody what Byodo is all about: 100% organic quality that tastes great and leaves you feeling good. They’re our response to the growing longevity trend on the snack aisle and meet several criteria at once: they’re high in protein, a source of fiber, and lower in fat than conventional chips,” explains Miriam Kaufmann, Head of Product Management. The new varieties have been available at organic specialty stores since September—in 80-gram bags at a suggested retail price of 2.69 euros.
